During my tenure in Congress, I have consistently fought to help more New Jerseyans afford the health care they deserve, and that remains one of my top priorities in the United States Senate. Although the United States spends more per capita on health care than any other industrialized nation, America is experiencing a health care crisis. It is unacceptable that 1.3 million New Jerseyans - and 46 million Americans - do not have coverage they can rely on. Health care costs and insurance premiums continue to rise, and the healthcare professional workforce is experiencing serious shortages. These problems contribute to large disparities in health care access and quality across the nation.

I strongly believe that all Americans regardless of age, race or socioeconomic status, should have access to affordable comprehensive health care. As Congress debates the best way to expand health care to all Americans, I will continue to support policy solutions that will strengthen America's health care system by increasing both access and quality, while also reducing costs.

Protecting Children's Healthcare

The State Children's Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP) provides comprehensive, quality health insurance coverage to more than 6 million working low-income families and their children nationally, including more than 500,000 children in New Jersey. While we have significantly reduced the number of uninsured children through programs like S-CHIP, we cannot rest until every child has health care coverage. Expanding Embryonic Stem Cell Research

The promise of stem cell research has personally captivated my family, like it has in so many other American families. That's why I have been a consistent supporter of embryonic stem cell research throughout my time in Congress. Click here to learn more about my stance on this issue.

Increasing Prevention and Early Detection

The cost of health care in America often prevents people from getting the care they need. Furthermore, the sheer complexity of the system can be so overwhelming that patients find themselves discouraged and unaware of their full treatment options. Providing Family Caregivers Support

Many families struggle between working full time jobs and providing care for their children, parents, or other family members. I have always supported legislation that provides low-income families with leverage and support which ensures entire families can remain healthy.Click here to learn more about my work on family health and support.
