Energy

Senator Menendez at the SOLAR Act press conference - March 28, 2007

Our nation faces an energy crisis that we are not going to be able to dig or drill our way out of. Misguided proposals to explore for oil and gas in the Outer Continental Shelf off the coast of New Jersey, in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, or in wilderness areas in the Western states will do nothing more than continue our "addiction to oil." We need a serious energy policy focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy, one that attempts to reduce our emissions of carbon while also making our electric grid less vulnerable to disruptions.

Improving Energy Efficiency

During my time in Congress, I have focused on improving our energy efficiency and increasing renewable energy sources. I believe this is vital to the security and future of the United States.

Protecting New Jersey's Shoreline from Oil Drilling

Although I am deeply concerned about our country's increasing dependence on foreign oil, I do not believe drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), or in other environmentally sensitive areas such as the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, will offer long-term solutions to address our oil addiction.
